1st spider :)

today was the first day of work. yes i am now madeeha syed: editorial assistant-spider
i couldnt sleep the night before because i was terrified of not waking up on time and being late for work. i did everything. i mean, EVERYTHING that i could possibly do to put myself to sleep. i ate some ice cubes (recently developed habbit), lay in bed closing my eyes hoping sleep would come to me, sat on the edge of my bed and practised the guitar in the dark. *sigh* but sleep would not come.
it did come however at around 4.00am and therefore, i did not wake up fresh and radiant as i had imagined i would have been.
got to work and lost myself in the building. the sweepers thought i was trying to find a way out. after directing me to the right place, i found that it was locked. i checked my watch, it was 9.00am.
at around 9.10ish two people from aurora came where i was (near the window) for a smoke. i was told spider doesn't open till around 10.00ish 11.00ish. the aurora people took me in and i was introduced to everyone who came (got see a particular writer who's articles i've read...she reminded me of the brunette in "the truth about cats and dogs"). at around 10.30ish, the assistant editor had arrived and i was finally in the place where i was supposed to be.

reba, the assistant editor, is a sweetheart. come to think of it, everyones amazing at spider. she showed me the bathroom keys, called the mis-man to fix my computer, showed me all the little details related to the magazine, we talked for almost one and a half hour and gave me dairy milk chocolate. and she turned out to be an animal lover as well. even has several cats she's given interesting names to. i told her i'd be getting a persian kitten soon and she told me everything i need to do to take care of it.

ali, the editor arrived at 11ish. what i love about spider is that the work place is very laid back and everyone works together as team. as in, literally together. they co-ordinate their work well, and they're willing to help out. hameeda's a jaan. she kinda like goes around confirming with everyone what they're supposed to do, checking things off a mental list and its kinda nice coz it keeps everyone together and it keeps them focused. she is also very generous with sharing her pizza. she even looks like a very huggable person, ever since i've seen her i've wanted to give her a big tight hug.

sadaf, the only other person left, sits on my right. reminds me of someone but i cant pinpoint exactly who. beautiful smile, she's also really sweet. cant write much about her now, haven't interacted with her that much yet.

for the briefest of moments i missed my old workplace. i had grown used to the enviornment and the people and the work wasn't challenging, but i grew attached to everyone. they were incredibly sweet when they had to let me go. wished me the best of luck, told me i should have told them earlier so they could have arranged something, but the best was... they all well... my memory of leaving that place is everyone smiling and wishing me well. and thats really really sweet.

im sick of sitting in front of the computer.
and im supposed to relax and get to work around 10ish-10.30ish... if no one has arrived before i have, i get the keys myself :)

Wow Spider is a very very nicely put magazine and you must be really talented to land in there :) congratulations!

As a child I always wanted to be a journalist, but sadly the atmosphere of most newspaper offices in Lahore is very very sad, mostly filled up with leering men and cigarette smoke :s thus I blog =)

not really. it was more about being in the right place at the right time :)

if u want to be a journalist, be a journalist. do freelance if u dont feel comfortable in the officy enviornment. but remember, it wont come that easy.

if u keep at it, it'll work out someday. it really will.
