magazine finally closes today and ol' wolf-nose/eagle-eyes/spider-editor ali has left for vacations. leaving the rest of us to run wild ;)
updated and worked on my december calender. now comes the difficult bit: deciding where to and where not to go. or maybe whether or not to go anywhere at all this december. at the moment all i want to do is go to a deserted beach somewhere and spend some time alone, away from the core of the city and the ways it finds to occupy my time.
maybe spend the night over there and come back home the next evening.

went to the Dawn Aurora Advertising Conference: Marketing to Gen Y (Y as in Youth) recently. wa
s running against an impossible schedule. arrived early in the morning, got registered (and collected freebies) and went back to layout firm. a couple of hours later, after going through the neccessary proofs, drop a message to editor and pop into the conference. bump into journo/marketeer friend Nadeem and his writer/marketeer friend FZ, our common acquaintance.oddly enough, i learnt more about marketing and advertising by listening to FZ explaining messages behind so-and-so campaign and by listening collectively to both Nadeem and FZ's conversations. from darwin to the ancient greeks to pyschology to weird obscure music to socio-political messages behind the songs from the weird-obscure music category. did i find it difficult to catch up to what they were talking about? well, they resorted to giving me summarised accounts of the why's and how's after the following bit of conversation (which thankfully occured sometime in the begining):
Nadeem: lala wo ow tsa ko ok na ma ta ?
Madeeha: *looks at him expectantly*
Nadeem: errm... what do you think?
Madeeha: *is surprised* me?
FZ: yes.
Madeeha: i dont know really.
*Nadeem and FZ exchange confused looks*
Madeeha: look, i reserve the right to pretend like i know what you're talking about ok?
today:

i did it. i went ahead and subscribed to the book club. it happened right before i was about to spend my money on a somewhat expensive book. before picking the book up i froze and thought, if i can get book-club points (converted into rupees later on) for the money i spend on this book now, then why not buy it after becoming a member of the book club? mentally calculated the amount the book club was costing me per month and the points i'd get in return for the amount of shopping i do, i thought it wasn't a bad deal so, why not?
also, i've been spending the past 3-4 days making my D drive past Paramount Books only to see the shop closed.
called the shop-keeper yesterday and raced to get to the store before it closed, but it had. what i want to know is, what kind of a bookstore closes at 6pm?! what about those people who want to buy books but have to wait till they get off from work? what about them huh?!karafilm festival is coming up and my favorite band just might perform on the closing date. i'll find out for sure tomorrow but till then i'm keeping my fingers crossed. whats sucks is, everytime kara comes to town, i have exams. will try to take time out for this. anyone willing to donate a video camera for a couple of hours?
and in case someone was wondering: the mtv-launch + the post-launch dinner both were incredibly boring. the launch was also incredibly mis-managed. the set was nice, it started and ended somewhat on time but despite having done sound-checks the day before, they managed to screw up the sound, the arrangement, pissed off a very good band (which did not perform in the end). a considerable number of people had left by half the show. i'd left after the 2nd performance and stayed at post-lunch dinner for only about half an hour. it just didn't seem like 'mtv', it was another IM event: almost-beautiful but without entertainment-substance.curently listening to:
Live.
the entire throwing copper album.
here are the lyrics from one of my favorite singles from the album:
I alone
it's easier not to be wise
and measure these things by your brains
i sank into eden with you
alone in the church by and by
i'll read to you here, save your eyes
you'll need them, your boat is at sea
your anchor is up, you've been swept away
and the greatest of teachers won't hesitate
to leave you there, by yourself,
chained to fate
chorus:
i alone love you i alone tempt you i alone love you fear is not the end of this!
it's easier not to be great
and measure these things by your eyes
we long to be here by his resolve
alone in the church by and by
to cradle the baby in space
and leave you there by yourself
chained to fate
oh, now, we took it back too far,
only love can save us now, all these riddles that you burn
all come runnin' back to you, all these rhythms that you hide
only love can save us now, all these riddles that you burn
yeah, yeah, yeah
