Previously emailed:i wasn't sad or depressed when the bomb blast happened not soo long ago, which killed a lot of religious umm personalities. gas stations were closed for 3 days, pro-mullah people in trucks went around throwing rocks at shop-keepers who dared to open their shops or at their potential-customers. i was disturbed but not really affected. amused because of i found people sneaking out to get some fuel or the 1 hour wait at 1am in the morning for our turn at the gas-station incredibly funny. i was pissed because there was no one who was delivering food. one had to go and get it. but that was about it.
this time, i dont know. it just feels so wrong. i mean, what was the point of killing that person really? and the little kid? what i dont understand is, if people keep getting caught up in petty issues of who's right and who's wrong, who's the kafir and who's the believer... how will they ever sit down and think about what they can do to better their situation and make the world a better place (cue to barney: i love u, u love me, we are one big fa-ma-lee), but no seriously... how are we, as a nation to move forward when we cant even respect each other and our differences? what happened to tolerence? why dont people realise what they're doing to themselves?
its frustrating because the country and its people have a lot of potential. they just need to bloody wake up and snap out of whatever they're high on.
ooof i feel like one of those... i dont know, not-me typt me.

Sabahat: it disturbs me like crazy, reading this kind of stuff abt Karachi since my bachpan.
madeeha: with the government promoting media, televsion and radio, most of which expose the masses to song and dance and the only thing most of us are concerned about... we will be singing and dancing away while the world bombs itself, we'll be singing and dancing while the homes and people around us explode, we'll be singing and dancing our way into captivity and we'll be singing and dancing on the graves of those murdered. and we'll be singing and dancing because thats the only thing we are learning how to do. and the funny thing is, i'm not the one to rant about social/political issues. i'm one of the singing and dancing types.
Sabahat: yeah but i kinda disagree with saying 'with the govt. promoting...' its the ppl who should realize when to watch what
madeeha: i am pro media. i'm very pro media. its a very powerful thing. it can boost a nations self-confidence and it plays a major hand in determining the national identity that a nation umm identifies itself with. what im pissed about is... most of the people who are operating it are primarily concerned about song and dance, or presenting news with added masala or from their own perspective. i dont see one single channel (with the exception of sunbiz and that too on not a drastically big level) promoting something that can be termed "proactive". as in, for the people, for the betterment. know what i'm saying?
Sabahat: oh yah, i do.
madeeha: every single radio channel is concerned about song and dance. most of the wanabe rockstars that are coming out now are concerned about song and dance, ek zameney mein, music used to mean something. it had its own ideology. what happened to the desi lennons?
after thought:
errm... we do have Salman (Ahmed) as the potential desi lennon, but he doesn't move people the way lennon did. i appreciate his efforts greately though.

i agree, media is extremely powerful- has always been used as a proganda tool.
i do wish musicians in our country were more politically/socially active. music in itself, as a medium is such a strong medium.if only people realized this.musicians aren't contributing much towards society. except 'song and dance!'
*sigh* I'm new to living in Karachi and somehow all this law and order violations, violence is what this city is used to! It was a bad experience to see all petrol pumps closed and having a car low on gas, and later discovreing cars and buildings being torched in the same place I had passed earlier! Apparently the city just goes back into the lull after 3 days till another incident happens!
its time someone or the people say enough!
Karachi really needs some major restructing and good visionary people who handle the roads, electricity, traffic, law and order mess because Karachi as a city has so much potential commercially and even culturally
